Button Watching TV

Button about wore herself out putting up all those "Lost" posters. I really hope Amelia and Leah see them and find her.

She said she was too tired to read, but wasn't ready for bed yet, and I thought I might know just the thing!

I still have my old cell phone. It can't make calls, but it CAN get on the internet using the WiFi in the house, and it's got plenty of space for movies and shows. So I got it all charged up and thought I'd see if Button would be interested in watching a show I think she might like.

She said she was, grabbed her blankie, the sleeping bag from the spare tent, and got all snuggled up with her stuffie friends to watch some Gravity Falls.

Gravity Falls is one of my favorite shows, and I'm really glad Button seems to be enjoying it too.

I encouraged her not to stay up too late watching her show, and she said she wouldn't.

And I guess, to be fair, she didn't stay up THAT late. But that's mostly because she fell asleep, right there, in front of the screen. Poor little worn out thing.

I don't think she wants the "TV" in her yard all the time, and I think she'll still read a lot, but it's always good to have plenty of entertainment options.

She's got another surprise coming too, that might give her a few other options. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Posters, Posters EVERYWHERE!

Button may have gotten a little carried away with putting up her "lost" posters.

She asked if she could hang some around upstairs, and I thought that would be fine.

With her little bag of posters and tape, she got started.

And she was off!!

Posters here....

Posters there....

Posters on the Christmas tree...

She wanted to make sure there was a poster on the cabinet where she'd met Amelia, just in case she came back there.

Posters on the cabinets...

Button had stuck posters all over the entire kitchen.

Until there were only two posters left in her bag...

"Do you think there are enough?" she asked.

I told her I was pretty sure that there was absolutely no way for ANYONE to miss Button's posters. If Amelia and Leah are around, they'll see them for sure. But she was determined that the last two should go up somewhere.

We decided up on the counter would be a nice place for them (and yeah.... I secretly took the one off the toaster when she wasn't looking. Smoke signals are probably not a great idea.)

Button seemed quite pleased with her work, and decided to share a vegan pizza (that my mom surprised us with. Thank you, mom! Yum!!) with me while we waited for her friends to find her.

I hope that they find their way to Button soon. We leave for Florida in a matter of weeks. Button says not to worry, and she's sure they will.

I guess we'll see. :)

Button Has a Plan

Today, I found Button diligently working away with some paper and crayons.

When I asked her what she was doing, she explained to me that she was making a "Lost" poster so she could find Amelia and Leah.

Looking at her drawing, I wasn't quite sure if it was meant to be Leah or Amelia, so I asked and she told me "No! It's ME silly!"

A bit confused, I pointed out that Button is not lost.

"Well, I am to THEM!" she explained.

Fair enough. (Though I don't think Button's picture looks much like HER either) I told her I might be able to help, but I needed to know exactly what she wanted the poster to say.

This is what we came up with.

Button has declared that it is absolutely perfect.

I'm very glad that she's pleased. She requested that I print up "a bunch" of them, so she can hang them places Amelia and Leah might see them, and I will.

I'm not sure this will work. But I really hope it does. I guess we'll see.

Button Finds Some (Imaginary) Friends

I finally found Button's bigger tent, and a few more of her things (not her box of clothes yet, but I'm narrowing down which box it could be in).

Her little shelf is coming together, and she seems to be settling into her space nicely, but.... I think Button might be a little lonely.

We added another chair to the folding table: one for Button and two chairs for when Amelia and Leah turn up. But for now the other two chairs are being kept by toy friends.

Pink Bear

And the Alpaca-corn her friend Mina gave her last Christmas.

So, Button calls the little pergola her "reading spot" and she's been bringing the two little toys over and reading to them there.

She says they like it, and she likes reading to them. Which, you know, is great. I guess. And she seems happy and all, playing with her toys like they're real.

But oh man do I hope Leah and Amelia show up soon....

Had a Talk With Button

I haven't found Button's box of clothes yet (it's here somewhere) so she's stuck with wearing the same clothes for now. She says she doesn't mind, but I can't imagine wearing the same clothes all the time, so I will find some or make some.

I asked if now that she was rested and back to living on her shelf, if maybe we could talk a little, and she agreed.

It was pretty clear to me when I first found her looking at the tree, that Button was afraid of me. And it broke my heart. So I needed to know why, and how I could fix it.

At first, she was reluctant to tell me what all this had been about, but we got through it. I even relate to some of the things she's afraid of.

Moving is exciting as well as terrifying, for both of us, so we agreed to just try to focus on the "exciting" part and not so much the "terrifying" part. :)

I promised not to pack her away, or forget her, which was really what she was most afraid of.

Button seems very curious about our new home, in Florida, and she's even starting to sound a little excited about the moving..

She insists no one was staying with her in the boot house, so I'm just going to let it go for now. She'll tell me when she's ready, but after our talk, I'm pretty certain it wasn't Leah. Which means we're going to continue searching for both Leah and Amelia. Maybe they're just hiding out somewhere like Button was.

I guess we'll find out.

Towards the end of our chat, Button seemed to be feeling better, and honestly, so was I.

Now I just need to find the box with her bigger tent in it, and her other clothes. They've got to be here somewhere.

Button Is Back Home

Lucky for me, I was able to find some of Button's things (I really thought I had packed them all away in moving boxes. I'm glad I was wrong). So I tried to put together her little shelf from before

I found the little tent that Leah had used back before all this, and the folding table and a chair. And I found her little garden bench too. Button seemed pleased as she checked it all out. She asked if she could have a second folding chair, for when we find Amelia, or if someone decided to come by.

So I found a second chair and that seemed to make Button happy.

Button told me where she had stashed some of the stuff from the Potion Shop (she'd hidden it behind the boots where she'd been living). Most importantly, she wanted her jammies, slippers and the books she'd packed.

She said she was looking forward to reading again (the light in the boot was not good for reading, I guess), but that she was very sleepy and falling asleep on an actual mattress sounded very nice. Reading would have to wait.

She got ready for bed and thanked me for finding Leah's little tent, but asked that I please keep my eye out for the big tent, just in case Amelia turned up. I told her I thought I knew which box it was in, and if I couldn't find it, we could always make a new one. Either way, she should be safe from the chaos of moving if she stayed up on her shelf. A brief look of... concern?... crossed her little face, and then she nodded and said that sounded like a good idea.

She wandered into the tent, and closed the flap behind her. I could hear tiny rustling noises as she got into her sleeping bag, and shortly there were very soft snoring sounds. Button had fallen right to sleep.

I didn't tell Button, but I am a bit concerned about where Amelia could be. She should be out doing her display gig, and if she's not in the cabinet, I can't imagine where she could be. And, where is Leah, for that matter? Was that who was staying with her in the boot?

Well, after Button has gotten a good rest, I'll see if she's got any thoughts on where to look and if she'd maybe like to tell me who was using that 2nd sleeping bag. I'll let you know as soon as I do!

I am so very happy to have Button back on her shelf. I really missed her a bunch.

Where Button Has Been

After finding Button checking out the Christmas tree, I managed to convince her to tell me about where she's been hiding out for the past few months.

Imagine my surprise when she told me she'd been in my own basement closet!

Once we arrived, she glanced around a bit, like she was looking for something,  but then turned and said "Yeah, so, this is where I live now."

She seemed to have made herself right at home in one of my boots. It had fallen on its side, making a little cave of sorts. She had bedding and a chess board, which I found curious. The pieces were strewn all over the place, like the game had been violently interrupted.

"You play chess by yourself?" I asked her, and she just nervously laughed and said something like it was the only way to find an equally bad opponent.

She said she'd made her home here shortly after I found her stuff in the potion shop, and that it was pretty cozy. Ginny (my Chihuahua) didn't bug her anymore, and whenever she started sniffing around, Button could just run back, deeper into the boot and she was safe. She said it was nice that I had this pair of boots I never wore, 'cause they were brand new and perfect to live in. She was just like the old lady in the shoe, she joked.

She seemed really restless and nervous about something. She didn't want to hang around her boot house and asked if I had any leftover pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving she could have.

In the kitchen.

Right away.

I said that I did, and she could. And off we went.

I will be moving Button out of her boot house into something (hopefully) nicer. I feel like such a bad companion, but at least she hasn't been alone all this time. Oh, she says she's been here alone, but I'm not so sure I believe that she's been playing chess by herself...

and I wonder why she would need TWO sleeping bags.

Hmmmm.
